I%26#39;ve traveled somewhat extensively, but am at a total loss regarding my upcoming Thailand visit. I gave myself 16 days on the ground, and will be there for NYE.
As of now, I%26#39;d like to include a 2-night/3-day visit to Siem Reap, and will also sign up for a 1-night/2-day elephant training course in Chiang Mai (finished by 11 AM on the second day).
My question is...what else do I do?!? I want to visit the temples, naturally, and have Ayutthaya, Doi Suthep Park and some kicking back time on the roster - preferably at a beach.
So, I guess this is your chance - I%26#39;m happy to take your dream trip to Thailand if you provide the itinerary;-)
Your Dream Trip to Thailand - Help!!
Consider old Sukhothai if ancient ruins are your thing. Also look at www.talesofasia.com for great info on Siem Reap. The American website owner (Gordon) also has a pretty cool guest house in SR and can help you get to see and do the things you want to, at the right price.
Don%26#39;t be too shocked when you discover that most big city Thai 3* + hotels will sting you for their compulsory NYE dinner (over and above the room rate). i.e. You pay 1000 - 3000 baht extra p.p. for the new years eve dinner whether you intend to participate or not.

You see that as a sting, but I see it as necessary to pay staff to work over NYE when they really want to be out having fun like everyone else.
For a beach. try something beautiful but away from the tourist crowds - Prachuabkirikhan.
When in Bangkok take a side trip to Muang Boran http://www.ancientcity.com you will really love it.
Thanks to both of you - that%26#39;s what I was thinking re: NYE pricing-wise. Was thinking of maybe celebrating at one of the beaches?
Thanks for the Siem Reap recommendation, also - haven%26#39;t gotten to that part of the trip yet!
Dragonc: Is Prachuabkirikhan easily accessible from Bangkok?
