Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi - day trips?

I am planning to stay w/ my significant other for three full days at the end of January at the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi. We will have spent some time in Bangkok, then two nights in Chiang Mai itself (probably at the De Naga Hotel), then two nights at the Thai Elephant Conservation Center, and our four nights at the Mandarin Oriental outside Chiang Mai will end our trip.

My question is -- how easy/desirable is it to take a day or half-day trip from the MO Dhara Devi to Wat Doi Suthep and possibly also Doi Inthanon park? While we will be staying one full day in Chiang Mai proper, we want to spend that day walking around the city, shopping, etc., so if we venture to Doi Suthep we will need to do so from the Mandarin Oriental. It is not clear from the MO website how far this trip would be, whether they have guides who could take us, or other transportation. I%26#39;m also wondering whether, given the price we%26#39;ll be paying for the Mandarin, it isn%26#39;t better to just stay at the resort and take advantage of the activities there for our three days.

I%26#39;d appreciate any advice. Thanks!
