Chalong Bay

Hi there,

I will be staying in a Villa located at Chalong Bay in October and wondered if there is anything that%26#39;s a %26#39;must do%26#39; around that local area?

Many thanks for your help,

Rich

Chalong Bay

Apart from Wat Chalong and the Big Buddha, I can%26#39;t think of any ';must-do%26#39;s';, but it%26#39;s a great area, quite convenient to get around from. There is Jimmy%26#39;s lighthouse and the Chalong Yacht Club for small, but good spots to sit and relax with a drink and a good, cheap meal. There are lots of restaurants in Chalong worth a visit, including Par Lai Seafood (better than Kan Eang, I think, much cheaper too). There%26#39;s a great little Belgian bakery opposite Wat Chalong you should try, too.

Chalong Bay

Thanks Athena, your insight is much appreciated! I obviously don%26#39;t mind heading all across Phuket but it%26#39;s nice to know of things to do close to where we%26#39;re staying.

Agree with Tina, it%26#39;s a great area and quite convenient to get around from(both land and sea transports). There are some interesting things around Chalong such as

Phuket Shooting Range(http://phuketindex.com/recreation/shooting/)

Siam Safari; Chalong Camp(http://www.siamsafari.com/gallery_phuket.php)

Green Man Pub %26amp; Restaurant(www.travel-phuket.com/nightlife/index.htm)

Muay Thai Camps(Many camps around Chalong such as http://www.tigerpitt.com/ , http://www.tigermuaythai.com/ , http://www.chalongmuaythai.com/cmtcamp.html , etc.)

Phuket Sea Shell Museum(phuket-travel-guide.com/sea-shell-museum.htm)

If you would like to do some sea trips to any islands around Phuket, Chalong Pier is a great place to charter speed boats or long tail boats and most diving trips are also operating via this pier.

There is a very good wine shop in Chalong as well. They have an excellent range of Southern Rhones. They do a nice meal as well and not so expensive. Also there is a Swiss restaurant in Chalong that is excellent.

Even more info - thanks guys!

The links are brilliant, so thanks for taking the time out to do those for me. Nice to know of the decent local restaurants too.

Cheers for your help,

Rich

If you want a relaxing day on the water, check out the River Rovers tour. They leave from Chalong Bay and it is a totally different trip from the other tours and speed boats from that area. We did it in August 08 and it%26#39;s a slow boat trip along the bay and rivers, thru the mangroves, a bit of snorkelling and Kayaking, fed wild monkeys and had great food and cold beers with our very laid back Captain Gordon and his partner.. You can check out the forum on River Rovers in the things to do section.

We have stayed in Karon 3 times and each time have organized a trip to Chalong bay for a seafood dinner at Danang Seafood. Huge but peaceful place located on the water with a simple charm - plastic chairs and limited English. We time our visit for sunset.

cheers

Freddy

Hi Freddy,

I agree with you. Danang Seafood is a great place and their food is also reasonable price. However, I don%26#39;t know why this restaurant is stopped to operate for few months now, this restaurant was closed when I went there on July and they still not open until now.

Regards,

Ae

The River Rovers sounds great but I%26#39;m not sure the weather will be up to it, just have to keep fingers crossed! We are out there in 2 weeks time.

The restaurant also sounds like a nice idea. Does anyone else have any more information if its open now or not?

Thanks for your continued input!

If it%26#39;s not, don%26#39;t worry. There is Parlai Seafood, which is great value and terrific food, although staff have limited english, but there is at least one girl there that speaks english there.

Other than that, if you can get to Khlong Muddong, (not quite Chalong, but fairly close) there is a fantastic little restaurant there, on the side of the canal, where the fishermen come and go through. The fish and crabs are kept in cages in the water. It is a very pretty little restaurant with fantastic food, some of the best Thai food in Phuket, in my opinion and once again, great value. They have an english menu there. The restaurant is called Chai Yo and you%26#39;ll need a local to take you there. My friend Mai, who is a driver knows where it is, if you%26#39;re interested and his email contact is; hknuch@thaimail.com

If you want massage, there is a fantastic massage place opposite the entry to Land and Houses on Chao Fa Road East. It%26#39;s called Pom%26#39;s Massage and there%26#39;s a hairdresser next door. You should ask for my favourite masseuse, Khun Tida, she is fantastic! Prices are very good too. Let me know if you want more details.
