Banthai, Burasari or Thara Patong????

Need some advice please.

We are in Phuket next June (school hols), couple late 40%26#39;s (happy to be in Patong) and have been checking accommodation prices.

Getting confused now, any thoughts on

Banthai: Good deal on superior but prefer deluxe room (in price range if I stretch budget). Worried about noise in all rooms, privacy of deluxe room.

Burasari: Elite Thai room (similar price to deluxe at Banthai).

Thara Patong: Premier pool access room (obviously cheaper). Is this place too family orientated??

Anywhere else, Mercure or Millenium??????

Also wondering about Salathai (deluxe room) if I decide to go more budget??

Happy for any thoughts to help confuse me further and hopefully make up my mind, so stop driving hubby up the wall.

Cheers, Lee

Banthai, Burasari or Thara Patong????

Also Mr Lee S.A school hols in July

Haven%26#39;t stayed at but am considering Thara. Not the fanciest hotel but so many good reviews, on many different sites, no one has a bad thing to say about it. Only problems I can see is the larger pool doesn%26#39;t look that big, and it%26#39;s not right across from the beach (Gracelands is, for not much more money, and has a huge pool). Also, Thara has an old and a new section, don%26#39;t know which type of room lines up with which section. If you are paying for a pool access room, you%26#39;d want one that opens right onto the water, not the sections with pool chairs. Maybe they all do and the others are not ';premier'; rooms ?

Agoda has some good pics:

Hi Lee, just to throw a spanner in the works, don%26#39;t discount Anderman Beach suites, the accommodation is 4 star by auusie standards and a mini superior suite was only $65.00 AUD per room including breakfast. Huge room on the eighth floor with sea views and a balcony that was about 5x4 metres. Our room was also an adjoining room to another suite as well.

Its about 7 Minutes walk north of Bangla Road.

Cheers, Pete.

Hi Lee

You have so many options but don%26#39;t really mention your budget or your expectations so I think only you can decide ultimately how much you%26#39;re willing to pay and what you want from a hotel as everyone has a different travel profile.

For what it%26#39;s worth, I stayed at Salathai about 3 years ago. I had a ground floor deluxe room facing the pool and a jr suite (free upgrade) on the 3rd floor. NO LIFT. We had excellent prices then (1250bht for the deluxe in October). I considered the deal excellent value for money. Beach towels, fresh white sheets, tiled clean floors, toiletries usual. Staff even found a travel adaptor to lend me. The room is as it appears in the pictures http://www.salathairesort.com/ bearing in mind I was there 3 years back.

I would say I liked the deluxe bathroom better than the jr suite bathroom in terms of layout. The room was of course smaller. It%26#39;s a boutique hotel about 40rooms, not luxurious but clean and pleasant. If you want upper class I think you have to go to the Banthai or a bigger hotel but pay more.

Thara Patong is right behind Salathai. Part of Salathai overlooks it. Both are very near the beach and more to the North of Patong but I personally find Patong rather walkable, it%26#39;s flat with lots of shops along the beach road.

gluck!

Ha, you can run but you can%26#39;t hide, eh Mr Lee.

Thanks for input so far, we didn%26#39;t really set a budget maybe up to $150 for better hotel, although the dollar value has changed since we first started looking late July/Aug and prices for hotels we were first looking at are quite high now or higher for low season next year than one would have thought especially the Impiana.

Pete, we stayed at the ABSH last year and had an awful room (deluxe mini suite on 11th floor) but the A/C compressor from ours and next room was on our balcony, so we couldn%26#39;t even sit out there. I know it is really great value for money and found the service and brekky etc quite good, but I doubt Trevor would go back there. I have found the Banthai rooms on the same booking web site Jane used, so already have one recommendation of the booking companies service.

Wildo, the premier pool access rooms are direct pool access (there are 7 of them), but it%26#39;s hard to get proper photos except on the web site, and I keep reading conflicting report of their amenities, and have emailed the resort a few times to get answers. We stayed in pool access last year at Kata Palm which were great with loungers on the balcony, so we got a bit spoilt. We also stayed at the Deevana in the deluxe spa room with the jacuzzi pool, but we are hoping to stay a little more central this time, but without the noise of the outside world filtering in.

Cindy, thanks for the report re the Salathai, I%26#39;m not actually comparing the hotels re prices as I figure you pay more for certain hotels and that is a personal choice (more popular hotels do seem to be more exy, though). Sometimes the more hotel reviews I read the more confused I get.

We have been considering Thara for a while now, but I am still looking at others. My main concern re the Banthai is the potential noise, as I%26#39;m such a light sleeper and some reviews say they heard noise and others didn%26#39;t. I%26#39;m also wondering if there really is a huge difference in the location of the superior rooms as opposed to the deluxe rooms on the ground floor, so if anyone has any other thoughts, throw them my way.

Hi Lee,

I dont know about the thara, but I%26#39;ve stayed at both the Banthai (deluxe pool access), and the burisari(pool access). Banthai lacked privacy, but was a good hotel just the same, I think the %26#39;pool access%26#39; (not deluxe) offers a little more privacy. The hotel is central and does have everything u need, but there was something missing. Burisari also was OK, good location etc, pool was a bit cold and the sun was only on our area for around 2 hours...so depends what you%26#39;re looking for in a hotel...Whilst we couldnt really fault either hotel, we probably wouldnt stay at either of them again. Feel free to message me if you want anymore info on either of these hotels:)
