What is the best area to stay in Bangkok

Hi there

Can anyone tell me the best place to stay in Bangkok?

I am coming over with my husband and looking for somewhere close to the action either via transport or walking. Access to shopping and things to do.

Any ideas?

Get a hotel on Sukhumit Road between Soi%26#39;s 4 to 24 this gives you walking access to a couple of skytrain stations and the underground. The skytrain will take you to all the shopping areas. The Skytrain links them all and yOu can jumP off at Siam Square and change to the Silom Line for the Patpong nightmarkets.

The underground will take you to Chatuchak the weekend market well worth a visit.

Real eAsy to get around Bangkok as long as you stay silom side of the river, the Best hotels such as Oriental are fabulous but on the wrong side of the river for easy access to central Bangkok

Sukhumvit Road or Siam area will do just fine! This way you can make use of the Skytrain. The Skytrain is an overhead transportation service that can connect you with many popular tourist spots. The Skytrain connects with the subway to get you to the national train station. The Skytrain also has a stop at Ekamai for the bus station.

Lots of shopping, restaurants, travel agencies for tours and street vendors available in this area, especially lower Sukhumvit from Soi 2 down to somewhere near Soi 13. The Skytrain has a stop for Chatachak and MBK.

When you want suggestions for hotels mention how much you want to pay per night for a room to narrow down the suggestions. Hotel rooms with air start around 600 baht and can go up to over 6000 baht per night.

Some Sukhumvit Road hotels:

If you want fewer bars around and still be able to access the Skytrain real easy check out the Asia Hotel. The Asia is right at a Skytrain stop. Easy walk to shopping on Phetchaburi Road.

Good luck.

Definitely the lower Suk for pubs/discos/shopping/restaurants, easy access to skytrain.

Hi;

Here is another Vote for the famous lower soi Sukhumvit. I have been traveled to Bangkok 3x in the last 2years and shall be back Bangkok this November,2008 at the same hotel in the corner soi Nana and Sukhumvit road. I Did look around and searching better place to stay when I was in Bangkok ,But None was found to fit my own taste and the convienence of the lower soi Sukhumvit. I can travel to most of interested places in Bangkok by using the BTS and MRT

Got me curious. What hotel do you use? We are making our 5th trip to SEA, but first to Thailand and would appreciate your input. Thank you for your time, jingles, Martinez, Cal
