Im looking to kill a few months from Nov to Jan and hear great things about thailand. What can i expect to spend living quite modestly for a few months there. Will like to see the country a bit but wont be living like a tourist every day. Any recommendations for something like i am planning to do? Where to go, and what to see as im not in any hurry. Thanks for the help.
Extended Stay in Thailand!!
A few days in Bangkok is a must. I hear Ching Mai (dont think i spelt it right!) in the north is worth a visit. Also maybe island hop/visit the coast?

Well you better check immigration procedures and see if you can stay 3 months.

You could get the first free 30 days and then make a short trip to another nearby country and on your return get another free 30 days.
Women like Chiang Mai. Many foreign women who seek out ';boy toys'; often go to Phuket. Phuket is worth a visit anyway.
For daily expenses you will need at least as much money that you would need back in your own country. If it comes out to be less then you will have more money for shopping! You can find hotel rooms with air in Bangkok starting around 500 baht. Fan only rooms even cheaper. A room in the 900-1000 baht range is not that bad.
Plan on staying in Bangkok for 2 or 3 days in the beginning of your trip and at least one more day before you leave for home. This way you will have a chance for last minute shopping and not worry about a connecting flight breaking down and you miss your ride home.
Things you can do in Thailand.

If you choose a hotel near the Skytrain in Bangkok you can use that rail service to get around town.
Good luck.
