Phi Phi & Patong

Hi all,

My family and another are headed to Phuket late next March / early April. We will be staying at the Patong Merlin but were also quite fascinated with Phi Phi.

We are in Phuket for about 2 weeks so thought Phi Phi might make a nice quiet break for us all. My family have stayed in Patong and know what to expect but the other family are Fiji goers and I think the full-on head rush of Patong could blow them away (we love it!).

So any suggestions for us would be welcome!

Thanks.

My opinion:

3 days in Phuket (try Surin or Kamala for some peace), 5 on Phi Phi, back to Patong to wrap it all up in a nice package.

Phi Phi is turing back into a shithole with all the trash so I%26#39;m not going this year. Last year was my last and it felt good to decide that. I don%26#39;t think many of the day trippers or even normal holidayers really care about preserving the place. But it%26#39;s still a must see. It still has charm, it%26#39;s just a bit rough on the edges now.

Thanks for your input, Scott. Is there a particular place that you normally stay and/or that you would recommend?

If you are planning on Phi Phi you need to choose your stay with great care.

I would avoid the tongsai bay area as that nowadays has bars and shops and is %26#39;perhaps%26#39; not what people would expect, you can go to quieter areas of Phi Phi.

The holiday Inn is probably one of the best ( forget the name tag ! ) it is a very tropical style place. Zeavola is another good but expensive option

There are of course many beaches on Phukjet apart from Patong.

There are also quiet islands and get away from it all places, it depends how %26#39;get a way from it all%26#39; you want, r24.org/beachsiam.com/?/a> about AU$ 185 in April, that%26#39;s in fact cheaper than the H/Inn Phi Phi.

Further away is Koh Ngai, Koh Mook and other small islands, Sivalai might suit, but just think about how quiet some places can be, probably for ease and time taken to get there a few days on Phi Phi, just avoid Tongsai.
