hello
we arrive in Bangkok on a Saturday late afternoon
we are planning on spending our sunday by going to chatuchak market in the morning and then onto mbk shopping centre
can you advise how we would get there? on the skytrain?
we are only there for three days. Our plan is to shop the first day, visit the temple and grand palace another day and then visit damnoen saduak floating market on our last day
is there anything ele that anyone would really recommend doing?
thanks
how far is mbk shopping centre from chatuchak mkt?
Well, if you chose wisely and already have a hotel near the Skytrain you can get to these places real easy! The Skytrain has stops for both MBK and Chatuchak.
Ask your hotel clerk where the nearest Skytrain stop is and if it is not too far use it. Otherwise you may have to take a meter taxi, only pay the meter fare and ignore the stopped taxi cabs near your hotel - they will want to bargain - wave a moving taxi over.

Chatuchak is at the Mo Chit stop. Get off at National Stadium for the MBK mall.

Good luck.

Hi There,
Just got back from Bangkok and you will find that to use the Sky train will be quite easy, just follow the crowds to Chatuchuk and you’ll be fine. If you are going to go to Chatuchuk first (would recommend to go really early, beat the heat, then you can retreat into air-conditioned comfort in MBK), I would come well prepared as you will find pretty much everything you need there at much cheaper than MBK ?with great bargaining power. So, so easy to get lost, they have maps (so helpful to get out of there) when you walk into the markets at the clock tower ?the central meeting point ?great if your lost.
The floating market does get so so reports, and I agree to a point with them, they are hawking the same old wares that you find everywhere else, so there is nothing in terms of goods that are unique, but the experience is interesting, so if you are really keen on doing it ?still go ahead, but don’t expect too much in terms of what they sell there.
Hi Flowers 136,
Make sure you take a big bag with you! We had the same plan, to go to chatuchak then mbk straight after.
After the morning at chatuchak, my arms were so sore from carrying all of my shopping bags, we had to go back to the hotel to drop everything off first!
Have fun!
If you state which hotel you%26#39;ve booked, we might be able to give better directions.
thanks for all your responses - they are very helpful
we are staying at the belaire princess
when you say get to the marke early - how early do you mean?
You%26#39;ll be fairly close to the Nana BTS platform. You can take the skytrain, from there, all the way to Mo Chit, without transferring trains.
';Early'; would be pretty much as early as you wish. Chatuchak will have some stalls open all night, but most of them open between 6~9 AM. The later it gets, the hotter and more crowded it becomes.
hi
I did the same a few weeks ago, arrived very late Sat night. I stayed on the river so caught a local boat to the palace for 2 hours then headed back Chatuchak markets from Saphan Taksim skytrain to Mo Chit. I bought a day pass as i was not sure how many trips I would make. I loved the markets but jet lag, 2 beers %26amp; heat got to me- so instead of serious shopping I had a massage. I learnt have plenty of water (can buy everywhere) and buy that appealing thing when you see because chances are you won%26#39;t find the stall again.
I took the sky train back to my hotel had a shower- then headed back to MBK late in the afternoon- the shopping was OK here but I wished I had bought more things as Chatuchak. I also found the stalls were packing up around 7pm or they were having their dinner so it was hard to actually buy.
When you visit the palace there are plenty more stalls on the opposite side so you have chance to buy things you may have missed Sunday. If you can visit the palace by boat it is another great experience- just be wary of the con-men saying the palace is closed as you approach it from the ferry wharf.
Mam
Great info, we are on this Saturday%26#39;s flight from Heathrow, was planning to hit the market%26#39;s in the evening but think we will leave it to the first morning now, cheers.
