Many has recommended to exchange Baht in Thailand for a better rate. While I know it is very easy to get currency exchange in Bangkok, is it the same in Phuket? I%26#39;m concerned since Phuket is a beach destination and we are first staying at Phuket 3 nights then 2 nights in Bangkok.
We are from Canada and the first stop of our trip is Hong Kong, I am wondering if we should get some Baht exchange in Hong Kong for our Phuket part, then when we arrive in BKK we will exchange more?
Also, many mentioned using a Debit card in Bangkok ATMs, is it the debit card from your home country or something they offer there... like a cash card?

We%26#39;re staying at JW Marriott.
The JW Marriott is located way up in the northern portion of Phuket Island, very secluded. The vast majority (99%)of resorts are located south, in central or southern Phuket, along the west coast. You probably won%26#39;t need to exchange much money unless you%26#39;re heading to a nearby town. Patong, the main tourist and party town is located 1 to 1-1/2
hours ride south. There might be some small towns located near the JW Marriott, but would be mainly for locals and not tourists..
The resort hotel can exchange money, but most don%26#39;t
offer good exchange rates. Exchange kiosks in town (Patong) offer the best rates.
You can exchange money at the Bangkok Int%26#39;l airport upon arrival. There are a number of exchange kiosks,
and they%26#39;re open late into the evening.. Rates are generally good.
Can%26#39;t answer your question on using a debit card. Tho, I would not chance it.. I wouldn%26#39;t want to give anyone the chance to access my financial accounts..

Are there currency exchange places in Phuket airport? We are flying to Phuket directly with no stopover at Bangkok.
The official Phuket Airport website notes there are 4 currency exchange counters..

I use a debit card from my credit union when I am in Thailand (they pay my ATM fees too!) I can take out 10,000 baht per day. Choose an ATM next to an open bank in case the card doesn%26#39;t come out you can have a bank employee get it for you!
If you use a debit or credit card you must first contact your bank and notify them you will be out of the country or the withdrawal will be denied because of suspected fraud! My cards have MasterCard and Visa affiliations.
You can also change money over at the airport bank. It has been a few years since I was in Phuket but I remember a currency exchange at the airport.

Above links still shows a currency exchange.
I hate the money changers in Hong Kong, I can%26#39;t even believe that they would give you a better rate than even a hotel in Phuket!
Wait and see if any other posters have comments on money changing in Phuket.
Good luck.
Hi
You can get an idea of the current exchange rate via this link:

With the current economic uncertainty the rates are a bit variable at the moment, but you can usually get a slightly better rate in Phuket than outside of it.
We%26#39;ll be using our debit cards (with credit affiliations) whilst we%26#39;re there. We did it last time with no problems and don%26#39;t expect problems this time. Just let your bank know your departure dates and where you%26#39;re expecting to be on what dates. That way, should a transaction from somewhere else in the world (such as Italy or England) turn up, they can stop payment on that item.
Regards, Donna
