Thailand for 28 days - recommended itinerary please :-)

Hi all

This will be my first big solo adventure:-) I%26#39;m a single woman and want to visit Thailand for four weeks in November 08 this year.I%26#39;ve never done anything more than package holidays and never travelled like this on my own - so I really want to make the best of it.

Firstly, is Thailand safe for single female travellers? Any good do%26#39;s/dont%26#39;s/tips and advice for a single female traveller?

Can anyone recommend what shouldn%26#39;t be (and perhaps should be) missed?

I%26#39;m very much looking forward to being able to sit on a white sand beach for the first time ever and hoping to take my half written book with me to chill somewhere and finish it. So good weather and turquoise seas are high on the list. Where would be good for beautiful beach huts to stay overnight it? And are they safe?

I also want to take in some of the more cultural sights and markets, also looking for cheap clothes and maybe to get some dresses made. Any recommendations and also which mode of transport to use would be useful.

Will probably fly into Bangkok (have heard it can be a bit mind-blowing in good and not so good ways) and have no idea after that. Where%26#39;s good to stay in Bangkok to get over the jet-lag?

Also, which is the better purchase, Lonely Planet or Rough Guide?

Lots of q%26#39;s I know and it%26#39;s a big ask really but any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

I haven%26#39;t been to Thailand either but from what I%26#39;ve read in the forums, you%26#39;ll have plenty of things to do, places to see and time to burn.

4 weeks is a lot... you can do everything from there.

You could try the usual touristy things in Bangkok like temples, floating market and night market.

Check out Ayuthayya (old capital of Thailand).

Check out Koh Samoi, Krabi and maybe a few days in Phuket.

According to friends who%26#39;ve been to Phuket, it is tourist central! You%26#39;ll see more foreigners than locals.

For relaxation, you could try Phi Phi and Khao Lak.

Mmmmmmmmm well that%26#39;s all I can offer you advice on.

4 weeks is ideal to see Thailand and will allow plenty of chill time along the way. We spent about 3 weeks in Thailand travelling from BKK by rail up to Chiang Mai and then down to the islands of ko Phagnan and Koh Tao.

Another more recent trip we just did the islands off Phuket. All arranged in country on a day by day basis. Easily done and perfectly safe.

As you have 4 weeks you could easily cover all our destinations in the one trip.

Hi,

we spent 5 weeks in Thailand earlier in the year. Our group consisted of 3 girls and 2 kids (2 and 8). We never felt unsafe and walked around at night with no problems. As with anywhere common sense prevails. In Phuket you are sure to hook up with other travellers.

We flew to Bangkok for 6 nights then to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Bangkok,Pattaya and then Bangkok again.

In hindsight I would go to Chiang Mai first if you want to shop as it is cheaper but the downside of this is you have to carry it all. Definetly check out the old capital, Bangkok has a lot to offer and Chiang Mai also has many possibilities but is a lot more relaxed then Bangkok.

Phuket has the beaches but is more expensive then the others but still cheaper than other countries.

Research different places and see what appeals to you.

In Bangkok, stay in the backpackers area where it will be easy to join in a tour. You will also get a lot of info off these travellers.

have a great trip

cheers
