What to do for 4.5 days in Bangkok? Have time for Phi Phi ?

Hi Everyone, we are traveling to Thailand for the first time late november. We arrive noon on a tuesday and fly out of bangkok early sunday so that leaves us about 4.5 days.

Do you think there is enough time to fly to phuket and take a day tour to phi phi( or some other island)?

it%26#39; just the 2 of us and we would like to do some light snorkeling and enjoy the beach.

Are there any other alternatives that requires less travel where we can snorkel / enjoy the beach around bangkok? Is it worth it to fly out to phuket amd take a day trip? We would like to minimize the traveling/ flying times.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Thailand is an absolute culture shock! It%26#39;s amazing. In my opinion 4.5 days is way too little but then it depends on what you want to do.

The shopping, clubbing, temples, markets are all fantastic.

If you want a closer beach I would suggest Pattaya -it is about 2 hours by bus and you have a host of water activities.

If you give more specific activities you will get much more detailed responses.

Hope I helped.

Thanks Jo. We are more interested in taking in so sights but our main thing would be to relax an enjoy the water, snorkel. 4.5 i quite litte but thats all the extra vacation days we could muster for this leg of our trip.

We%26#39;re 30 so probably would like to go out at night once or twice but nothing too crazy but the main thig would b the beach and the water and relaxation.

I would by-pass BKK and head straight down to Phuket.

Spend maybe a night partying in Phuket then the next 2 days in Phi Phi snorkelling and chilling out at the beach. Then Back to BKK maybe for a day for quick tours of Grand Palace and the Wats and last minute sourvenir shopping.

And if you want snorkelling and beaches AVOID Pattaya.

Flights from BKK direct to Krabi, run 3 times a day at about 11, 14 and 1700hrs each day. Round trip is about $100 and flight time a little over an hour.

Krabi is one of the best snorkelling areas for November and you could easily include a day trip or overnighter to Phi Phi.

Hi

I think it is hard to do both in such a short time so I think you will have to go for either stay in Bangkok or head down to the beaches. I personally think Bangkok is very exciting and fun. You can get great hotels at a nice price, you can find lots of great food, there are sights to be seen...and the whole place is just a big cultural shock at least for me coming from Norway. Last year my wife and I went to Bangkok and Samui. I have a trip report that I can share with you if you are interested. Send me a mail on gardkarlsen@hotmail.com and I%26#39;ll send it to you (or anyone else :-) Get in touch if you have any questions.

Regards

Gard

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

We%26#39;ll do a little more research and see if we can squeeze in krabi or phuket in those time.

Has anyone heard of airasia.com? Booked a flight / flown on them?

one way flights range from 450-699 thb so just wondering how safe / legit this budget airline is.

Thanks!

Air Asia is a low cost carrier, I think the US equivalent would be Southwest or jetsgo.

They usually have flights departing every hour or couple of hours. New planes but no free food, drinks etc.

I have flown it many times. cant complain about the service on the flights..

BUT

Air Asia has a tendency to cancel flights until its gets a proper load for the flights. So lets say your flight is below the load where it makes $$, they will cancel the flight and put you on the next plane.

It all depends on when you fly.

I have flown Air Asia 8 times and by my count its 4 cancelled/delayed and 4 on time.

Thanks Mmonkie!

That%26#39;s really good to know for our planning!

Spend a night in Bangkok and then take the bus to Jomtien. You can swim there and snorkle and relax in the sun. The ride to Jomtien is just a little over 2 hours by bus. Spend the last night in Bangkok to do some last minute shopping and partying.

Phuket is okay but you do have to waste some time at airports and then you have to worry about your flights crapping out on your or something like that. In Jomtien it is easier to get back to Bangkok by taxi or bus.

You will wish you had more than just 4 days!

Have fun.
