Trains!

Hi thinking of travelling from Bangkok on the train to Kanchanburi / River Kwai and staying in Kanchanburi for a few nights, then by train down to Hua Hin.

Has anyone had any experience of the trains - are they reliable? Safe? etc? I know they are cheap and surely cannot be worse than commuting to London every day!!!!!

Thanks for any input

Carol

Trains!

We have travelled the length of Thailand via trains and encountered no problems although from BKK to Kanchanaburi we caught the bus.

When in Kanchanaburi, you can catch the train up to Nam Tok and visit the Australian War Museum at Hellfire Pass. A very moving experience.

Catch the first and last train of the day as they are not designated as ';tourist trains'; and are considerably cheaper.

Trains!

better to take the bus from BKK to kanchanaburi.

the trains leave from Thonburi station, in BKK, which is across the river and a bit inconvenient. also the train takes nearly 3.5 hrs where the bus takes 2 hrs.

from kanchanaburi to hua hin, best to take a scheduled minibus. check tour agents once in kanchanaburi for times and prices. yes it%26#39;s more expensive but it only takes 2.5 hrs. if you did it by train or bus you have to go to ratchaburi first then wait for connecting service. can take up to 5/6 hrs.
