Best Buys ??

I would love to hear what your shopping ';best buys'; are - you know, the things that you bought when you were in Bangkok that you still say ';what a bargain'; or you just didnt care what it cost you just had to have it?? Getting closer to my first trip to Bangkok so I am getting very excited about the shopping !!

Best Buys ??

Dining ';locally'; is one of the city%26#39;s great buys. For what one might spend for a single lunch, you can easily feed dinner to a family of 4!

DVD%26#39;s, CDs, software and such are extremely cheap. Although the quality is usually great, the origins are ';questionable';.

Clothing is very cheap. you%26#39;ll have to look for quality, but it can be found at great prices.

Branded electronics and imported goods are expensive. If you find a name brand gizmo at a bargain basement price, odds are good it%26#39;s a poor quality knockoff.

If you are looking to ';stock up'; on little gifts, costume jewerly, toys and such, I would send you to Sampeng. It%26#39;s a wholesale district in Chinatown. This is where many vendors buy the stuff they will sell you elsewhere.

Best Buys ??

Clothing.

Probably cannot be considered cheap but the wide varirty of brands and models of watches.

Costume jewelry

And Thai Silk stuff especially NAraya bags and pouches etc. Very cheap compared to the west. What you would pay for here you pay as much as 10x back home

IF - big IF - you know what you are doing, gold and precious stones are a good buy. If you are even remotely unsure, steer clear. Laptops can be cheap, again IF you know exactly what you are after. The same applies to cameras for Australians. US citizens can get a better buy in NY.

Chatuchak has an excellent range of cheap clothes. Tailors are a hit and miss affair. Shoes are cheap.

You will go crazy over there.

We live in Bunbury and I tell you what I could stay in Bangkok for a full month of shopping.

There MBK is about 4 times or even more the size of our Galleria Morley.

Some items we bought:

- Birkenstock sandals 100baht

- Sunglasses 5 for 500 baht

- Fake diamond Hello Kitty necklaces 60 baht each (If I wear sterling silver bought at home the colour of it changes after a few hours wear, but these necklaces I can sweat and have worn them over and over and it%26#39;s still the same). I bought 30 different style necklaces and give them as presents. If you have kids, it%26#39;s great to give them for their friends birthdays.

- Little girls dress up high heels 150-200 baht each. We%26#39;ve had so many people ask where can they buy them from. They don%26#39;t sell them in Perth. Perth only have the real cheap plastic shoes in the toys section.

- 3 plain singlets for 70 baht each, or 3 for 150 baht.

I%26#39;m getting excited for you, have a great trip, spend up big as prices back home are way too high.
