Which is the best end of Sukhuvit Rd to be near to Siam Sq? Is this area good for shopping and restaurants?

Low number end of Sukhumvit is closest to Siam. Any hotel near the Skytrain will be close to shopping. Just hop on the Skytrain and get off at or near a shopping area.

Skytrain takes you to MBK and Chatachak weekend market. Get off at the Asia Hotel and from there walk down to Phetchaburi Road for more shopping in malls, shops and at street vendors. Sukhumvit Road, near the Nana Skytrain stop has a lot of street vendors, malls and other shops. Skytrain can also take you to the Patpong night shopping area and Silom.

Meter taxi cabs are real cheap in Bangkok PROVIDING you only pay the meter fare! Always have small bills for paying for taxi drivers. Parked (lurking) taxi cabs near hotels almost always want to bargain the fare - walk out to the curb and wave a moving taxi over!

I you want to be near Siam Square then the Patumwan Princess Hotel is a great location right opposite Siam Square, next to MBK, and the National Stadium skytrain station. One stop to Siam where you can get to Siam Center, Siam Paragon, and more of Siam Square. Major shopping area and you are spoiled for places to eat.

Another hotel you may want to consider is Novotel Hotel on Siam Square. Right in the centre of Siam Square.

Siam Centre, Siam Paragon, MBK are all within walking distance.
