Tour to tiger temple & elephants

I definitely wish to take a tour to River Kwai and the Tiger Temple. Would also like to ride the elephants. How much further away is that from the Tiger Temple and is it worth it. Where is it located?

With regards to the notorious Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi, Thailand - following complaints from tourists and volunteers about tigers being mistreated there, Care for the Wild International (CWI) undertook an intensive two year investigation. The resulting CWI report reveals illegal wildlife trade, animal cruelty, false conservation claims and visitor safety risks at the Temple.

Tour to tiger temple %26amp; elephants

Hi;

I never made any attempt to visit the Tiger temple in the last 3x to Bangkok and I shall not be again visit this temple November, 2008.

The reason is very simple . These Tigers should be kept in the Zoo with other animals for proper care and security and less Commercialised .

My Thai%26#39;s girl friend agrees with me that Tigers are wild animals and dangerous to be around people .

I personally would not visit any of these places, and will never again visit Bangkok because of what I witnessed as regards to the exploitation of baby elephants being paraded down streets,stopping at various bars being made to beg for food... I will be contacting IFAW to report this although I%26#39;m not holding out much hope, as the people I spoke to about it say it goes on all the time.

Hi;

Baby elephant walking in front of NEP is a part of

culture here. Elephants are involved in many aspects

with Thai%26#39;s society that the people all see as normal behaviour.

I still like to travel to Thailand

Hi

And I thought the Thai people were supposed to be gentle souls... Theres nothing gentle about controlling a baby elephant with a hook attached to a stick making the poor animal howl in pain for food is there? Or perhaps you think thats acceptable... Anyhow I%26#39;m going to make it my mission to inform people who might be visiting Bangkok to let them know what goes off there...

Hi;

Certainly , It is Not A Normal treatment to any Animal like the baby elephant walking for food the way we see in Western countries .

However, in the Oriental country the people employ many animals to help them in agricultal part of economy like the Buffalo and the Elephant , hunting dog. The part that I Don%26#39;t like using them to do

entertainments and commercialised parade.

After all , people travel to different country to see new culture and Thailand is the top destination in the SE.Asia

Hi

Working animals is an acceptable practice the world over and is not just confined to SE.Asia. abuse of animals is not a culture.

Up until that point I had enjoyed my time in Thailand, but I will not be taking my tourist money there again until this cruel practice has been wiped out.

Hi;

Okay, We all have differents in the cultures departments West vs East and the elephant is just a very small part of them. A 16 millions tourists who come to visit Thailand every year enjoying to see many temples, friendly Thai%26#39;s people and they may not see a walking baby elephant on the street is a Big deal cruel treatment that needs take this matter to the U.N. attention.

However, the Tiger temple is a different matter and subject to animal abused Big time.

Hi

It has nothing to do with west v east cultural differences. Abuse is abuse whatever your culture.

I have received a reply from the IFAW who I contacted regarding my concerns. They spoke to the Thai branch of IFAW and they are aware of this practice. Apparently it is outlawed in Thailand but they are powerless to do anything about it. Today I have wrote a letter outlining my concerns to the Thai embassy in London. I%26#39;m not holding out much hope of a reply, but one can live in hope that my comments will be taken onboard.

Hi;

Okay, I can really appreciate your effort to stop the baby elephant walk in Bangkok for the sake of better treatment animals. I am not a Thai%26#39;s guy , but I have a look at a different angle and Don%26#39;t see how this pratices can be stopped when Nothing hurt the elephant and this is a thousand years old culture. The elephant is a Big thing in Thai%26#39;s history and cultural .
