Visa Legalities

My boyfriend and I would like to travel to Thailand for Chinese New Year. I%26#39;m waiting to hear back from any officials but I%26#39;m wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation. I know that I can travel without problem. However, he has a criminal record which has not yet been cleared or pardoned. He has a minor possession charge for marijuanna and an impaired driving charge. Does anyone know if this falls under their law against imprisonment or would they consider it a petty offence. I would hate for him to buy a plane ticket and be turned around at the airport. Thanks

Visa Legalities

Which country was the conviction in? If outside Thailand, how will the immigration department know about it? Drug possession is an inprisonable offence in Thailand, and if the conviction was here, then he would likely be refused entry.

Visa Legalities

HI

If BF has valid passport and your country is on thailands visa waver list then should be no problem.

but could be a problem when you try to re enter your home country if he has a warrant out then police will detain him when he arrives back home.

I had a friend detained when he tryed to re enter USA over a 6 yr old traffic warrant. after 6 hrs in holding cell and being strip searched they let him go. told him to go back to state that issued warrant and clear it uyp before he tryed to fly again.

Thanks guys. He was charged in Canada and it has all been dealt with here, it just has not been cleared from his record. I was mostly just worried he would get here and be turned back around but if they don%26#39;t really check that it shouldn%26#39;t be a problem? I don%26#39;t think we need tourist visas to get into Thailand.

No, he will be fine. As said, a record here is not the same as a record (for these minor offences) in Western, or even other Asian countries. It goes without saying that on any form or in answer to this kind of question that ';no'; is the answer to the authorities when entering Thailand. It will not recorded here and only found out if he committed a crime here, or if he was applying for a work permit when immigration are now known to ask for police clearance reports from the home country of the applicant.
