connecting flights and lugguage

Some may find this a daft question. I have never flown and had a connecting flight before.

I am flying London to bangkok then onto Koh Samui.

Apparently it will be the same plane, Thai airlines.

When we arrive Bangkok do we have to collect our cases or do they automatically come with us to Samui.

Karen.

They should be checked right through, but best to confirm that by calling the Thai office in London. You will need to change plane in Bangkok.

Thank you I will check, I can imagine arriving in Samui and my case going around at bangkok airport.

should be no problem.

my bags made it samui-bangkok-paris-dublin, with pretty short turn-round time in Paris.

It%26#39;s always possible something will happen. If you have to spend a couple of bob on a swimsuit till your bags arrive, it won%26#39;t be the end of the world.

But honestly, chances are your bags will arrive when you do.

Thai airways always check your bags all way through to Koh Samui, even if you fly with a different company from bangkok.Actually all airlines from London check the bags trough to Samui, I used about 5-6 different airlines during last 3 years and always had them checked from London through to samui.

It%26#39;s not a daft question at all. We had fun and games this year with our connecting flights. We flew with Emirates from London to Dubai and then Dubai to Bangkok, then with Bangkok Airways to Samui.

When we checked in at Heathrow, they told us that our bags were only checked in as far as Bangkok and then we%26#39;d have to clear immigration, collect our bags and check in at the Bangkok Airways desk for our final flight.

Our flight from Heathrow was delayed by an hour and a half so once we got to Dubai it was a mad dash through the airport to get the next one, which we did just as the gate was closing. Once on the plane, we were told %26#39;this flight will be delayed by approximately 2 hours%26#39;. Great, we thought, that%26#39;s all we need. He managed to make some time up and we landed in Bangkok with an hour to get through immigration, get our bags and check in for the last flight. An hour is not a long time to get all that done in a huge airport. We found someone in a uniform who looked important and explained our time problem and he let us avoid the queues at immigration and sent us through the diplomatic channel. Great, now we just had to collect the bags, check in and we%26#39;d be on our way.

At the luggage carousel, one of our bags came off really quickly and then we waited for the second one. And waited, and waited. It never appeared. We had to then report it missing to Emirates and there were loads of us with the same problem. By this time we%26#39;d given up on getting the flight. Once all the forms etc were filled in, we went and found the Bangkok Airways desk where a very helpful lady from Turismo Asia found us, explained that a car would be waiting for us at the airport and that they%26#39;d found our bag. It was on the flight to Samui that we should have been on. I still to this day have no idea how that happened as it wasn%26#39;t even checked in as far as Samui.

When we finally arrived on the island, there was our bag, mocking us and asking what kept us!?

I and my family used Emirates many times, and they did lose my daughter%26#39;s bags quite a few times (but always on her way from Samui to London, never from London to Samui - funny enough), but they have never refused to check the bags all the way through without need to collect in anywhere on a way... :-)

Oh Jill, sounds like you had a very stressfull journey.

Thanks for all the advice. I will take note of what they tell me at the airport and if they say I dont need to collect my bags at bangkok I can relax.

On the Bangkok Air site there is a list of partner airlines where they will co-operate on checking baggage right through.

As everyone says it is so much easier to do this as immigration is (usually) much easier and faster in the transit section of Bangkok airport than the main immigration.

Other airlines C e.g. BA will not check your luggage through to Samui however Bangkok Air will book it on BA on the way back !! I also had trouble with Quantas.

Would be surprised if you are on the same plane from London all the way to Samui but with Thai Airlines you can 100% book your bags through so you can relax now!! Your baggage tag should have USM as the final destination.

On the way home, Bangkok Airways had no problem with booking our luggage all the way through to Heathrow.

I%26#39;d be very surprised too if it was the same plane all the way, Samui airport is tiny and the planes that fly there are quite small.

Thanks you have all put my mind at rest. Cant wait to go now.
