Taxis to Use the Meter!

Metered Taxis are now in fact going to use the meter.

The fare structure should be as follows:

Flagfall Bht.90

First 2Km. Bht.50/Km

2Km - 11Km. Bht.11/Km

11Km - 20Km Bht.9/Km

Over 20Km. Bht.7/Km.

Lets hope they stick to it!!

Seems a positive step but i`ve got my doubts about how many will tow the line.

So now if they won`t turn the meter just get out %26amp; wait for one that will as opposed to before when none did.

Hi Jamie,

Most of the cabs have stickers on the windscreen showing metered rate plus Bht.90 surcharge.They seem to be taking it seriously.Perhaps consumer power as generated by forums such as this have had an effect.We shall see.

Initially all tourists with a problem should contact the Tourist Police on 077 421281.The ';hobby bobbies'; sometimes answer the phone!

Still seems a bit steep to me when you look at how these fares compare to the new Bangkok charges - and that is still taking into account Samui is an island. But hey, it%26#39;s better than what we had before if as Jamie says they tow the line.

So are all of the taxis pretty much metered now in Samui? Or only in Chaweng area? What about in Bophut or Maenam?

Taxis always had meters they just didn%26#39;t use them.

The ones using the above scheme have a banner across the top of the windscreen.

There is no sinister connotation attached to the word scheme in its correct English usage.I was just referring to the system that was put in place to partly allay the dis-satisfaction felt by a number of tourists when having to deal with the taxi ';mafia';.

One more thing, according to these prices, the taxi ride from Sandy Resort/Zazen Resort (in the western end of Bophut) to the Fishwerman Village is about 200bht (the distance is about 2 and half kilometers...).

I think that is pretty expencive taxi ride!

Correct on both counts.That%26#39;s why I use the Songthaews.
