Krabi or Khao Lak?

Hi

My husband and I are planning a trip to Vietnam next year around May/June. We like the idea of ending our trip with 5 or 6 nights on a beach in Thailand. We have been to Thailand several times and just love it. We have been to Samui and Ko Chang as well as other destinations inland.

As June is Monsoon time in both places, is one affected less than the other? Also I have read that alot of bars and restaurants close down in Khao Lak in the off season and that the ocean isn%26#39;t very nice for swimming in at this time of year. Also, is it possible to do boat trips at this time of year from Khao Lak?

It sounds like we could have more choices of things to do if we visit Krabi. We will want to relax mostly but its always nice to have the option of doing things if we want to.

Hard to choose between these beautiful places. Which would you choose and why? Cheers

Krabi or Khao Lak?

Will be interested in any info on this subject as we are planning 2 months in Phuket, with trips to Krabi and Khao Lak.

Currently booked over on 25May and just waiting on specials for a return leg.

Krabi or Khao Lak?

Hello,

You are so right it is hard to choose between the two places. Weather wise it will be about the same. I allways do both places as i just can not choose between them. If you have 6 nights why not do 3 at each it is only 2 hours away by road easy to get to and a nice scenic drive.

From KHao Lak if you are wanting to do the boat trips to Similan and surin this would not be possible as it is only open from November to end of April. There are boat trips that you could do in Phuket from Khao Lak but transfer would be about 2 hours. You would have a good choice of restaurants in Khao Lak town it is mainly the small beach shack restaurants in secluded places that shut down and some on the other beaches for the green season.Khao Sok in the green season is a lovely trip to do.

Krabi you would be able to do boat trips dependent on the weather.Beach wise i prefer the beaches in Khao Lak as they are so beautifull and quiet. The best beaches in Krabi are Railay Phranang beach but you get a lot of noisy longtailboats and the offshore islands 25 minutes away.

Where ever you choose you will have a fantastic time. Khao Lak is much quieter than Krabi and more of a chill out place.

Julie

Thank you Julie for your reply and helpful advice.

We have decided to take some time out of Vietnam and put more into Thailand. I have also fallen in love with Koh Lanta. We definately plan to finish up there but still haven%26#39;t quite made up our minds between Krabi and Khao Lak.

Khao Lak is probably more us as it doesn%26#39;t appear to be ruined by tourism from what I have read and most likely will be much quieter but I just love the landscape of Krabi. Have been considering Railay Beach in Krabi as it sounds beautiful but unfortunately also very busy with the additional day trippers and noisey long tail boats coming and going all day.

Where ever we choose I know it will be fantastic and we will be back!!!

Cheers
