khao lak or bo phut beach

Hi,

We will be in Thailand 2nd week of December and would like to go to a nice beach to relax (clear water, nice sand and not too many people). We cannot decide between Khao Lak (about 1 hr away from Phuket)and Bo Phut (Koh Samui).

What is a better place? Also, how is the weather in both locations in early Dec?

I have never been to Khao Lak but from late October to mid December the weather is generally better on the Andamen side of Thailand (Phuket side) that the Gulf. You could catch the end of the rainy season early December on Samui - although I have been here then and the weather has been lovely.

Not been to Bo Phut on Samui, only Chaweng Noi where the beach was nice sand and water clear.

December is one of best months weather wise in Khao Lak and, for that reason, one of busiest too although there are several areas along the Khao lak coastline. The nicest beaches are Pak Weeb and Bang Sak, which are also the quietest with less accommodation, therefore less people.

However, because the ocean along the coast is tidal and forever moving, the water, although still a beautiful turquoise is not clear.

Being Khao Lak regulars we would recommend it, wouldn%26#39;t we?! :)
