Sugar in Thai Cuisine

Hi,

I will be holidaying in Thailand later on in the year. Due to health reasons, I have to avoid sugar at all costs. I have heard that the Thai people add a lot of sugar to their savoury food. Does anybody have any suggestions of some yummy Thai food I can find whilst on holiday minus the sugar?

Many thanks :)

Sugar in Thai Cuisine

Wow this is a tough one, Thai%26#39;s put sugar into nearly everything.

Sugar in Thai Cuisine

I think for some kinds of food, they dont put sugar until serving. For instance, with som tam (salad normally from papaya) and noodle, youll see they put one spoon when you order. When they cook in restaurant, I dont think theyll put sugar if you tell them not to.

Just ask them mei sai nam tarn ka (ka if youre female. Krab is youre a male).

And Ive heard the sugar-free things are more dangerous as it makes the hairs fall.

Really tough one that.

Like mentioned above, Thais put sugar in everything. Instead of salt and pepper on tables, they have sugar.

The safest way is to ask the hotel conceirge etc to write in Thai something that says. ';No Sugar please for health reasons';. That way you can show it to whomever you purchase your food from.

Alot better then trying to say it as they might not understand.

Agree they have sugar instead of salt and pepper. And they put one table spoon of fish sauce inside your noodle! LOL. Not enough, they still have 1 bottle of fish sauce on your table. If you go to rural areas, very obvious that they eat very salty.

Sorry to go off-topic.

The basis of Thai cooking: salty, sweet and sour.

I really should say the basis of Thai flavoring: salt, sweet and sour.

No Sugar in thai ????????????
