Taxi or car rental?

Hi, My husband and I can%26#39;t decide weather its better to just use a taxi during our 2 week stay at a villa or just rely on a taxi service? We found a rental company that offers a suzki sporty for 700BHT a day. Which do you think would be less expensive in the long run? Does anyone have any views? Thanks.

Taxi or car rental?

Hire the jeep and boycott the yellow and maroon bandits.

Taxi or car rental?

I agree with Roy

Go with the car that seems a very reasonable rate, remember to get your international licence to be safe %26amp; don`t leave your passport just a copy.

Depending on what you are planning or the area you are staying you may not need the car everyday. If that is the case you can catch a songtaew which are taxi utes %26amp; pretty cheap %26amp; they circle the island pretty well 24/7.

Latest songthaew rates.

From Nathon to Chaweng Bht.60 (Minimum fare for points in between Bht.20)

Haven%26#39;t done Nathon - Lamai in a while but should be about the same.

Thanks for the replies! We decided to go ahead and rent a suzki sporty for 11 days instead of using the taxi%26#39;s. We were given a rate of 700 BHT per day (that was their rate for 10 or more days, otherwise it is 50BHT more on a daily rental) and they will deliver the car to our villa!

Hi Chica I arrive in Samui 8th October, just wondering is that suzuki you%26#39;ve booked a jeep or car? Seems a very good rate, who did you book that with and where are they based?

Hi BazDown, I don%26#39;t really know how to describe it---a sorta jeep? It%26#39;s very small, however we were told 2 young kids could sit in the back seats, but not very comfortable for an adult. Since we were looking for something inexpensive this seems to fit. We booked through Kohsamuitours.com located in Bophut area. The rate is 700 BHT for 10 or more day rental and 750 BHT if less than 10day rental. Have a great stay!

There are some drawbacks when you drive yourself. First, I guess that you know in Thailand they drive on the other side of the road from the US. Sometimes your first reaction in an emergency response will be the wrong way!

Farangs (foreigners) who get in accidents in Thailand sometimes end up paying for damages, their fault or not, because the police hold your passport until damages are settled. Insurance companies eventually will settle claims but Thai citizens that you may collide with are afraid you will leave Thailand and not pay.

Just a word of caution. Sometimes a pedal bicycle can do for most close travel.

Good luck.
