Should I go to Ko Lanta or Kho Lak ?

Hi

Arriving in Krabi on Nov 1st for just over 2 weeks and after a few days in Ao Nang, we can%26#39;t decide whether to go to Ko Lanta or Kho Lak.

This is obv the Ko Lanta forum, but would like some advice on why I should choose it over Kho Lak?

Our likes are relaxation, snorkelling and diving for my husband. We like to have a few drinks of an evening and like eating in local hawker markets for fresh fish - is this the place for us?

Re accommodation, we like Boutique type hotels, small and cozy, but with all amenities - any ideas please of hotel names and best beaches to stay on.

Is there much to do when we get there or is it a quite island?

Thanks in advance for your help

Sarah

Should I go to Ko Lanta or Kho Lak ?

Hi Sarah,

I%26#39;ll leave Ko Lanta Lovers to provide information in answer to your questions as opposed to promoting Khao Lak but just for clarification Ko Lanta is an island and KHAO Lak is on the mainland about an hour north of Phuket airport.

Both are great destinations so why not do both?

Should I go to Ko Lanta or Kho Lak ?

Hi Sarah

I know your heart is calling Koh Lanta

From what i read, i feel like Koh Lanta would meet your requirements

I would suggest the best and what to do in Koh Lanta as following

-Koh Lanta National Park which lies in the South end of the island

-Phra Ae beach(or Long beach)---is my fav beach

-Koh Lanta Old town ---Settled in the old site of the island, very close to gypsy villages and there are few nice restaurants

-For night life activitiesBan Saladan(the main pier) seems to be the only lively place at night on this island. You can find many restaurants (both Thai and Inter), Souvenir shops, mini marts, tour agents, diving centre etc

For day trip to other islands or for sight seeing, my advice is to book the trip when you%26#39;re there. This would help you for a decision when you reach there. You can arrange your own program day by day such as first day you want to do a moderate elephant trekking, second day you want a day trip for snorkeling, next day you want a sun bathing and relaxing around the beach etc. (I think this is better in case you want to skip or change a program. If you book a trip prior, you certainly can not change the program of the day and can not ask for refund if you want to cancel any programs)

There are many resorts and hotels that provide full facilities and amenities(but cheaper than Khao Lak!)

You can also see my photos from a trip to Krabi. few pix from Koh Lanta as well

have a nice trip!
